Fernando and Humberto Campana Corallo Armchair for Edra, 2004
Designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana for Edra in 2004, the Corallo Armchair looks less constructed than grown: a great nest of stainless steel wire, bent and welded entirely by hand until it takes on the tangled form of coral.
Each chair requires hundreds of welds, and no two are exactly alike. The design is now held in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Richard acquired this one new in the mid-2000s, and it sat in his New York office until he moved to Flamingo Estate. He always thought it looked more like a plant than coral, so it was professionally powder-coated in a soft green, transforming it into something almost botanical. Against planting, its extraordinary structure slips in and out of view.
Suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
